Biography

Ashley is a postdoctoral-fellow with the Sea Around Us Project at the Fisheries Centre, and is working with Dr. Daniel Pauly and other project members. Ashley received her BSc in Zoology from the University of Florida. After spending a year working for a marine conservation organization on Maui, she began a PhD program in Marine Biology and Fisheries at the Rosenstiel School of Marine and Atmospheric Science at the University of Miami in Florida. Under the guidance of Dr. Jerald Ault, Ashley’s dissertation research focused on the use of two alternative multispecies modeling frameworks to evaluate the dynamic interactions between predator and prey populations, and to understand the influence of fisheries and environmental temperature change on predator-prey and food chain communities. In addition to her dissertation research, Ashley participated in aerial surveys of boater use in Everglades National Park, and was a research scuba diver for the Florida Keys Multi-Agency Reef Visual Census Study. Throughout her student career, she remained actively involved in secondary and post-secondary education, working as a graduate-level teaching assistant, high school biology teacher, math and science tutor, as well as a field-based environmental educator.
